Baracking the Vote

Yeah, I know… that particular little catchphrase has been overdone, but you only get one vote, so it’s my only chance to use it.

Early voting in our county was at the library and I have to say it went much smoother than the primaries. Even though we started outside at the curb, there were two lines for signing in, so it went pretty quickly. The only annoyance was a man behind me who kept going on and on about how the other line was moving faster. I really wanted to turn around and say “Hey, asshat, stop complaining or move to a fucking country where you don’t get to openly elect your leaders. Ktxbai.” As the gentlemen in front of me muttered under his breath, “Some things are worth standing in line for.”

We had two first-time voters while I was in there, so they got a big shout-out and applause. The young girl turned a particularly deep shade of red, which, of course, prompted the crowd to hoot and applaud more. Both got special stickers and hugs from the elderly ladies working the booths. In the midst of such a divisive election, it’s nice to be able to come together on something.

Only six more days. I hope I have enough drugs.

Going blue in a red state

The seven largest newspapers in my state have endorsed Barack Obama:

Austin American-Statesman
Corpus Christi Caller Times
El Paso Times
Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Houston Chronicle
San Antonio Express-News
The Dallas Morning News

In addition, The Eagle (Bryan-College Station) and the Lufkin Daily News have endorsed Obama. I’m still looking for a complete list of Texas newspaper endorsements.

I’m not so disillusioned to think my redneck state might actually come to its collective senses on Nov. 4, but one can hope.

Sharing the wealth

Lessee….

Barack Obama says “share the wealth” and it means “socialism.”

Sarah Palin says “share the wealth” and it means “more money in the Alaska Clear and Equitable Share program.”

Funny how that works.

Scare Tactics and other Republican Party favors

Is it my imagination or does the the Republican Party and their “Night of the Living Dead” supporters just get scarier every fucking nanosecond? According to one of their rags (I refuse to provide a link and drive up their traffic) the reason I do not like Sarah Palin is…. wait for it…. “post-abortion guilt.” WHAT.THE.FUCK.? Women do not support Palin because we all had abortions and are now having the collective vapors about it?

With this kind of warped thinking going on, it is any wonder a McCain supporter cut her own face and tried to blame it on a black person, thinking no one would pause over the fact the “B” was backwards? Or, perhaps I just don’t understand all this because I don’t live in the “real” America. You know, where bombing abortion clinics is not considered a terrorist act and spending $150,000 in less than two months on clothes is typical of the working class. And, “share the wealth” means “the scary Muslim black guy with the angry wife is going to take money away from my children and we’re going to starve to death while Mexicans take our jobs.”

Someone call me when this freak show exits stage left.
